There is a great selection of beautifully tied flies in the bins here at The Compleat Angler. These days, many of them are tied in countries all over the world. It is a sad testament that the commercial fly-tying industry here in the US has almost disappeared.

So we’re very proud and delighted to have a large selection of flies in the store tied by Mike Motyl – one of the few great American tiers still supplying quality flies on a large scale.

These days, Mike specializes in the hatches of the Farmington and Housatonic rivers, as well as hatches from the rivers in the Catskills. Mike’s patterns are extremely effective and beautifully tied – and we can attest from personal experience that they work! Stop by and check out some of Mike’s Iso, Hendrickson, Sulfur, Caddis, Steno, and Stonefly imitations (all superb floaters), as well as his exquisite spey and salmon patterns.

Mike graces The Compleat Angler with enthusiastically-attended fly-tying demonstrations every year. We are proud to offer these superb specimens of his craft. Stop into the shop and pick out some of these great flies for your next trip!
